The Scout Method

The Scout Method provides an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law, which is guided by adult leadership. In practice the method is best seen when young people, in partnership with adults are:

- Enjoying what they are doing
- Learning by doing
- Participating in varied and progressive activities
- Making choices for themselves
- Taking responsibility for their own actions
- Working in groups
- Taking increasing responsibility for others
- Taking part in activities outdoors
- Sharing in prayer and worship
- Making and living out their promise

   
 

The Group became a registered charity on 17 April 2003 and is governed by a constitution adopted 19 November 2002.

The Objects of the charity are to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities.

The Group is an autonomous organisation holding its property and equipment and admitting young people to Membership of the Group on the basis of its autonomy, but otherwise subject to the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.

The Scout Association exists by authority of Royal Charter granted 4th January 1912.

"A thirty year lease, commencing 1st July 2003, for the buildng used as the Scout Hut is held by The Scout Association Trust Corporation as Trustee for 1st Richmond Scout Group."


SCOUT LEADERS AND ADULT MEMBERS

All adults in 1st Richmond Scout Group are CRB checked and adhere to the following principles and practices:

Working Safely with Young People - The 'Young People First' code of good practice

The responsibility of each adult in Scouting is to ensure that:

- their behaviour is appropriate at all times
- they observe the rules established for the safety and security of young people
- they follow the procedures following suspicion, disclosure or allegation of child abuse
- the recognise the position of trust in which they have been placed
- in every respect, the relationships they form with young people on their care are appropriate
- the welfare of the young people for whom they have a duty of care is safeguarded
- they avoid compromising situations or opportunities for misunderstandings or allegations
- they put the Association's policy on child protection into practice.

MEETING PLACE AND TIMES

1st Richmond Scout Group meets at its headquarters in Quaker Lane, Richmond (next to the Doctors surgery). Its current meeting times are:

Mondays – Scouts 7.20 to 9.00 p.m.

Tuesdays – Cubs 6.30 to 8.00 p.m.

Thursdays – Beavers 6.00 to 7.15 p.m.
